Charlie “Shirl” Alejandro began her career with the Metropolitan Police Department on December 17, 1984 and became a Trooper with the Massachusetts State Police when the police consolidation law took effect on July 1, 1992. During her years with the Metropolitan Police she worked in a number of units, including: Charlie served as the only female officer on the Special Operations Unit (SOU), as an Intel officer, search & rescue, and special response team (SRT) member.  She had assignments in the Speakers’ Bureau, as an academy drill instructor, court officer, as well as a certified rape and child abuse investigator. After the merger she was selected as an alternate on the S.T.O.P. team, was on the Weed & Seed team in Chelsea, worked as a homicide detective and undercover officer at Suffolk CPAC, on the DEA Task force at Logan Airport, in the major crimes unit as well as road trooper and registry of motor vehicles road tester.  After her retirement in 2001, she worked as a community organizer for the City of Lowell, assistant project manager for Vance International, and as a criminal justice instructor for Lincoln Technical Schools. Charlie has successfully run CPG-CP group training with her husband and is co-founder of the Sarah’s Joy Foundation.
